Although I added some hooks to the core code that I had hoped would allow me to get message bodies in a custom filter, the hooks were not sufficient. All of my attempts to get the body in custom search terms have been unsuccessful. So as far as I kknow, you cannot do this at present. I appreciate that this is an important issue that needs to be resolved.

I can confirm that this occurs as you described. I looked at the code for this as well. Unfortunately the code to save the value of that string is all in core, and would probably need to be fixed in core. I'l make a note of that as a possible future fix (since I also am the main person who maintains the core code).

Hello

Is there a way to schedule automatic runs of a filter, based on a frequency or whatever...
The goal could be to sweep all mails every week in search of mails older than 15 days and not yet answer and execute an action on each of them, like sending automatic replies.

Thanks

Thanks for (1); it does indeed solve my issue (A)

Another problem:

3) The Apple Mail attachment bug.

Thunderbird bug reports mention that the "detach" feature does not work on some messages sent from Apple Mail. Apparently Filtaquilla's "save attachment" feature fails in this regard too–it saves zero-length attachment files.

We're not dicussing "detach" here, merely "save attachment"–surprising in view of rkent's comment (2) that "save" operates differently from "detach". If you like, I'll have my Mac correspondent send you a test email.

.

Response to questions:

1) In TB 3 and later, there is a filter option to run the filter "after classification". When you use this option, then the filters run after the junk mail classifier (and new search options are available, including junk status and junk percent).

2) Save attachments does not AFAIK rewrite the message. However, detach attachment (which requires TB 3.1) does rewrite the message.

Two feature requests, two questions, and a comment.

Feature requests: These might be tough.

1. Option to delete the attachment when the message is transferred to trash or when deleted from trash.

2. Lower priority (I don't need this, but others might). For retroactive use–saving all previous attchments from many years of Thunderbird email–one could request the following option: the saved file has the date of the original email. Attachment Extractor can do this but is no longer maintained and has glitches. You are currently more involved with Thunderbird.

Questions

A. How to ensure that Filtaquilla runs **after** junk filtering, to avoid clogging up the saved attachments folder w/ junk.

B. If I simply command Filtaquilla to save attachments, does it still rewrite the message–with the attendant possibilities for corruption?

Comment:

i. Seems to work with Eudora OSE 1.0rc2, which derives from thunderbird 3.0.4

I don't fully understand your post I'm afraid. But let me describe the problem more fully, and why it is difficult to solve, and offer a workaround.

The detach operation actually must rewrite the message in its message store. That is an async operation - as is a move. There is no way in the base filter code currently to coordinate the operation of two async actions on a single message in a single folder.

However, I was able to devise a method to get around this using the existing FiltaQuilla. It is a little tricky, but feel free to try it. It will only work with messages moved to an IMAP store.

1) With FiltaQuilla installed, enable processing of message filters in the destination folder using (select folder)/(right click)/Properties/(enable "Apply incoming Filters")

2) On the IMAP account, create a first filter which is a move. In addition to whatever your usual move criteria is, add an additional search criteria which uses a javascript search term, and rejects the filter if the folder matches the destination. So if for example the folder name is "xxx1" add a javascript search term (matches):

 message.folder.name != 'xxx1'

3) Add an additional filter, located after the MOVE filter, that does the message detach

On my tests, this combination was able to successfully do a detach after a move. Obviously I need to develop an easier way to do this and get core and/or FiltaQuilla patches to do this.
