I added the "after classification" option to TB (it's in core by the way, not in an extension) partly to allow just the sort of interactions that you are discussing. But I also do not use it myself, because I make extensive use of virtual folders, so I don't need moves to classify messages, tags are enough.

Bob,

I'm aware this is a rather old thread, but just wondering if you've tried using TaQuilla and FiltaQuilla together (perhaps with JunQuilla also, I don't know if that'd be necessary) such that TaQuilla would tag certain messages with "folder-move-to" tags, and then a special message rule is set up with FiltaQuilla's after-classification option and moves all messages tagged with that tag to the folder specified.

Not sure that I can think up a reason to test this myself (not having any complicated tag or folder hierarchy), but I think it should work.

Actually I'm amazed that TaQuilla is working for you, since the version posted on AMO is quite old. I'm working on updating it for the released TB 3.0 right now.

As for your problem, if the extension is successfully tagging the messages, then you should be able to search for them with the traditional search technology (using for example the View/messages/tags). If you are using the newer gloda search ("Search all messages") I'm not sure of the results. Let me add a bug report to my database though, perhaps I am not adding the notification that is needed so that gloda notices the changes and reindexes the message.

The extension tagged messages (very nicely btw), but I can't seem to be able to search for them. When I try to search 'messages tagged: Foo' I see nothing. Maybe need to reindex (how?)?

"I wondered if you considered using MaxEnt instead of what I presume is Naive Bayes?"

TaQuilla uses the same code as is currently used in the internal TB junk processor, which is Naive Bayes. At the moment I do not have any plans to change that or allow other options.

"I almost never use beta's, but this pretty much compels me to go for it."

I have not updated TaQuilla for a couple of betas, and at the moment it is a little out of date. If you are at all risk-averse, I do not recommend using it until I have done some updates on it.

I wondered if you considered using MaxEnt instead of what I presume is Naive Bayes?

Although this would probably make training a lot more time-intensive, it could be done in the background (as most users' resource usage is minimal) and in batches when sufficient number of new e-mails has been classified.

Then features like number of links in an e-mail, average length of sentences, etc. could be incorporated, which would probably improve the result.

Otherwise thumbs up for this. I almost never use beta's, but this pretty much compels me to go for it.

My goal/desire:

Minimizing per-message processing time.

MailClassifier provides a link to immediately place the message in the identified folder, so I can select multiple similar messages, click the proper per-sorted classified link (typically only 40-60% of the links are classified 'properly', but that is enough, when multiple messages are selected and one link is clicked, ALL selected messages are moved to the selected folder (and presumably MailClassifer trains on the action performed on all messages)

When tb3b3 is out, I'll be using that with TaQuilla to see how I can minimize my per-message time even better, but this direct-placement one-click feature is quite valuable to me (at least)

Ah - I see someone already mentioned the Mailclassifier addon. I definitely believe your integrated classifier will be far better/faster than the javascript of Mailclassifier.

What I most crave out of Shredder is two things:

1) search that doesn't die in threaded view (happens to me all the time, bug finally fixed in 3b3pre)

2) bayesian pre-sorting of incoming email, that can easily be trained (but that doesn't (by default) move messages --- this is Mailclassifer, though hopefully readily extensible to TaQuilla.

Help make the world a better place and give us (finally) bayesian sorting of incoming mail (as you already have, so what better to do than simply nod and extend the features of TaQuilla)

For any Douglas Adams fans, I equate this to the Electric Monk of Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency -- we now have tools to read our email for us, next comes tools that think for us.

There is no capability to add tags on sending in Thunderbird. This is reported and briefly discussed in bug 370260. It is also mentioned there that the Tag Toolbar extension provides this capability. I can also see how your feature to copy tags to replied messages could have value, but obviously does not exist in the program at the moment.

As for TaQuilla, I can't say that leaving out sent messages was a design decision, I've never really considered it for some reason. I've recently added a lot of hooks into the core Bayes code to support TaQuilla, I'll think about whether it might make sense to do that for sent messages as well. At some level though it seems odd to add this advanced Taquilla capability, when the core program does not even support the basic tagging of sent messages.

Tagging is somewhat underdeveloped in Thunderbird. I know that improved tagging support was a major design issue in PostBox. I just checked, and they do include the abaility to tag outgoing messages.

Hi Again (sorry for all the questions),

I usually set Thunderbird up to thread (store a copy of) replies with the original replied-to message and was wondering if there were any way to apply tags to messages when sending.

Is the fact that labels aren't applied on sending related to missing functionality more core to Thunderbird, or is this a design choice of TaQuilla...

...at a minimum it would be great for the tags of the original replied-to message to be coppied over to the reply message (although I can see cases where this might not be totally desireable).

Better yet would be to have tags applied heuristically by TaQuilla to sent messages in the same way as they are to received messages.

Thanks again,

     Aaron
