I've saved network address to save attachments as

\\SQ\Tech.Info\intel.com\PCNalert.com

but after reloading Thunderbird this address is changed to

\SQ\Tech.Info\intel.com\PCNalert.com

so for all addresses with two first slashes.

I can confirm that this occurs as you described. I looked at the code for this as well. Unfortunately the code to save the value of that string is all in core, and would probably need to be fixed in core. I'l make a note of that as a possible future fix (since I also am the main person who maintains the core code).
