Hi

Tweequilla stopped working and I don't receive new tweets since mid of June. The error console shows: "extensions.tweequilla ERROR javascript error: Error twitter callback status is 410"

Can you please fix the problem?

Am I the only one with this problem and should I do further investigations on my side?

Sorry, I missed this post earlier.

Twitter changed their API protocol and disabled the protocol that Tweequilla uses a few months ago. That means there is is a bit of work required to get Tweequilla working again. Unfortunately I am not able to do that at this point in time, so Tweequilla was disabled on the Mozilla addons site, and is considered at this point an abandoned addon.

Thank you for the response. I hope you'll find some time to update your twitter plugin in the future. Thunderbird's chat feature is no adequate replacement. Actually I've tried some other clients over the last months and no one could satisfy me.

I'm just here to let you know, that I'm still missing Tweequilla.
The internal Twitter support of Thunderbird is not a replacement and also many other Twitter clients aren't able to provide the ease of use, that Tweequilla did with Thunderbird.
Sad, that it's gone :'(

Hi BigMike,

One piece of possible good news here is that we made the decision at the recent Thunderbird Summit to include the binary addon New Account Types with Thunderbird beginning in the next major release (Thunderbird 38). TweeQuilla was initially written as a demo of that binary addon. In including that binary addon with the core program, it makes it much easier to support TweeQuila. Also, that addon will need a demo, and it might as well be TweeQuilla (which at this point is easier to do, because the underlying protocols are supported in the Chat features of Thunderbird.)

So there is likely that there will be some motion on this in the next couple of months.

Someone else also asked for this, there was just a minor issue that kept it from working that I fixed. Here is the URL of the fixed version, should work with Thunderbird 38 or 45.

https://mesquilla.net/releases/taquilla.0.3.4.xpi

I still need to upload this to AMO.

Sorry, probably you mixed something up? The thread is about TweeQuilla (which I'm still missing, as the "chat implementation" is absolutely no match).
You linked to the TaQuilla extension.

Kind regards
BigMike

Oh you are right, I did mix that up.

TL;DR answer: maybe I would revive it.

The story here is complex. TweeQuilla was originally a demo of a technology called "SkinkGlue" that can be used to add new account types to Thunderbird. Nobody had much interest in it but me, but it is used partly in my main addon ExQuilla. It was complex though because it had to be a binary extension, which is hard to maintain and no longer supported by Firefox. Thunderbird continues to support binary extensions, at least for the current release (45) but we will not support them anymore for the next major release, TB52 due January 2017.

All that is prelude to the fact that I am working very hard to get a new technology implemented and shipped in core Thunderbird, now renamed JsAccount, that will allow adding new account types to Thunderbird, and would be used in a non-binary extension version of ExQuilla. My main motivation is for my ExQuilla extension, but I'll need to demo it like I did SkinkGlue with TweeQuilla. I have not decided yet the proper demo, but TweeQuilla is one possibility. Easier now that the Twitter protocols are already supported in Thunderbird core. I could land JsAccount anytime in Thunderbird core, but it would not be available to released versions until TB 52 (unless we decide to also land it in TB 45 which is unlikely).

As for probability, let's say there is a 95% chance that JsAccount will be in TB 52, and a 50% chance that I will revive TweeQuilla to work with it.

Thank you for the insights. In my opinion, the integrated twitter support is no match for TweeQuilla, so I hope the best.
